It promises to be a ‘spooktacular’ Halloween in Longford with the return of the Dead of Night Festival for 2024, which kicks off from Saturday, October 26 and culminates in a free procession and street spectacle on Bank Holiday Monday, October 28.
To start the spooky season in Longford Town, Samhain Town family event takes place in Connolly Barracks on Saturday and Sunday, October 26 & 27. This family event will see new activities including spooky entertainment acts and the return of the haunted house and the pumpkin patch.
Samhain Town tickets are now available, with two sessions each day from 12pm to 2.30pm and 3pm to 5.30pm. Tickets are €5 per child and each children’s ticket includes free admission for one adult. Under 2s are free entry. There is an additional €4 charge per pumpkin with limited availability. Tickets are available on TicketTailor.ie, find the link on Longfordcoco.ie’s homepage.
Bank Holiday Monday (October 28) will see the return of the Fire and Shadows Procession from 7pm. This free event will work its way down from Earl Street to Main Street and into Connolly Barrack where there will be a spectacular fire beacon finale. This year’s Procession includes floats that tell the story of local legend, Midir and Étain.
Floats are designed and made by a collective of Longford artists and they will be joined one again by Spraoi Waterford and 100 local performers. The procession is funded by Fáilte Ireland.
Speaking ahead of the festival Longford County Council Cathaoirleach Cllr Mark Casey said, “It is great that the Dead of Night is going from strength to strength, and I cannot wait to see all the surprises in store this year. And it is great for families, with low cost and free events and plenty of entertainment for local performers and lots to see and do. I encourage everyone to come along as Longford is the place to be for Halloween this year.”
Longford County Council Chief Executive Paddy Mahon added, “It is fantastic to see everyone be able to enjoy a safe and family-friendly Halloween in Longford Town. It is great for local businesses and a great show of community spirit and local artistic talent. I hope everyone enjoys themselves. Longford County Council proudly supports Dead of Night 2024.”
