The two Longford men plead guilty to the robbery of more than €230

Two Longford men have pleaded guilty to robbing a Longford bookmakers and stealing more than €230.


Desmond McKeever (46) and Peter Murphy, (42) both of St Michael’s Court, St Michael’s Road, Longford appeared before Longford District Court last week.


The pair, who were served with books of evidence, pleaded guilty to the robbery at Boylesports, Earl Street, Longford on March 3.

Both McKeever and Murphy, who are in Garda custody, were arrested one week after the break-in.


Sgt Enda Daly, court presenter, said McKeever has also separately been charged with carrying out a burglary and stealing a box of Xanax tablets from Lloyds Pharmacy, Ballinalee Road, Longford on May 2, 2024.


Murphy was charged with attempted robbery at The Kiosk, 57 Dublin Street, Longford on February 21, 2024.

Garda Lorraine Shiel gave evidence and told Judge Bernadette Owens she had served books of evidence on the two accused men.


Defence solicitor Bríd Mimnagh told Judge Owens McKeever and Murphy would be pleading guilty to both charges contained in their books of evidence and neither of them would be applying for bail.

Ms Mimnagh also applied for legal aid and a junior counsel for both men and they were remanded in custody and sent forward to the next sessions of Longford Circuit Criminal Court on November 5.
