The launch of a new book 'Four Pound Subsidy: The History of Longford Town 1924-2024' takes place in Longford Library on Friday, October 11 at 7.30pm. All are welcome to attend.

Charting the history of Longford Town Football Club, the book is written by staunch Town supporter and Ardagh native, Seamus Leavy. Fittingly, the launch takes place exactly 100 years after the formation of the club. The launch will be performed by Jim Hanley, Longford Town FC Chairperson.

The book features key people from throughout the years. It also includes match reports and photographs, the result of hundreds of hours of painstaking research in newspapers and other sources.

Funding was provided by Longford County Council under it's small grants scheme for local books.

“It is fitting that this book, which charts the history of Longford Town FC will be launched on the 100-year anniversary of the club. And there is no better person than Seamus Leavy to have written it .” said Longford Cathaoirleach Cllr Mark Casey.

“Longford Town FC has a unique place in the sporting life of this county and this book is a great record of all its achievements.” added Chief Executive Paddy Mahon.

Four Pound Subsidy: The History of Longford Town 1924-2024 by Seamus Leavy retails at €25 and is available at LTFC.ie and in Bell’s shop in Newtownforbes.
