Granard Butter Market and Revamp Longford are collaborating together to host an event highlighting their efforts in sustainability and advancing circular economy initiatives.

The event on October 11, which will have a strong focus on sustainability, will take place at the Granard Butter Market at 10am and showcase the work in this county and the Midlands.

October marks Reuse Month, a time dedicated to promoting sustainable living and circular practices across Ireland.

The Butter Market, renowned for its community-driven project, recently installed solar panels with support from the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI), emphasising its commitment to renewable energy and sustainability.

Meanwhile, Revamp Longford, a leader in the region’s circular economy, continues to drive sustainable practices through furniture restoration, upcycling, and waste reduction efforts.

Their combined efforts symbolise a shared vision of reducing waste, conserving energy, and fostering a more sustainable future.

This collaboration not only showcases their individual contributions but also serves as a powerful example of how local organisations and businesses can work together to make a lasting impact on the environment and community during Reuse Month and beyond.

Granard Butter Market is a fine example of reusing a derelict space which was traditionally a marketplace for buying and selling surplus farm goods at the turn of the last century.

It had fallen into disrepair and was a derelict site until community activists came together to re-establish it as a vibrant community space.

Grant aid and volunteers “work hours “have made it into an example of what can be done through cooperation.

By reusing abandoned space and material what was once an eyesore is now a valuable community space.

In 2017, it was officially opened by the then Minister for Rural and Community Development Micheal Ring and has brought renewed spirit and activity to Market Street.

In the last number of years many fledgling traders have explored their enterprise skills successfully.

As running costs are a major headache for all organisations it was decided we would keep our running cost as low as possible.

With this in mind Solar Panels were installed to supply the electricity needs.

In collaboration with Lus na Grainne funding was secured to install Solar Panels on the roof of the Butter Market.

The sun is one of our greatest natural resources which now supplies electricity to both organisations.

This is a very successful collaboration between two vibrant community groups in the town.

On October 11th, Granard Butter Market will host Revamp Longford to showcase their remarkable work in sustainable living and the circular economy.

Revamp Longford is a leader in this area and will present a range of innovative practices designed to reduce waste and promote environmental sustainability.

Attendees will have the opportunity to explore fabulous upcycled pieces, demonstrating how discarded items can be transformed into beautiful, functional pieces, also highlight Revamp’s furniture repair services, where old furniture is given new life through expert painting and restoration techniques.

In addition, their Sew and Revive programme will showcase textile upcycling and clothing alterations, offering creative solutions to extend the life of clothes.

Revamp’s most recent initiative, the domestic white goods engineering programme, focuses on repairing and refurbishing household appliances, further contributing to a circular economy.

This event is a celebration of practical, sustainable living and offers something for everyone interested in eco-friendly practices and is supported by Longford Participation Network.

The event at the Butter Market on October will aim to showcase the power of community-driven initiatives in advancing sustainable living and the circular economy.

Reuse Month highlights the importance of resource conservation, this event serves as an inspiring example of how local efforts can make a significant environmental impact.

By supporting initiatives like these, we take meaningful steps towards a greener, more circular future for Longford and the Midlands region.
