2023 extension opening: St Christopher's Special School Board of Management; Sheila Dinnegan, Fergal Fennessy, Mel Donlon, Ann O'Leary, Jacinta Brady, Lorcan Gearty & Margaret Connellan
A Longford Senator has reiterated his call for greater capacity at St Christopher's Special School, raising the issue multiple times in the Seanad, with the Department and Minister of State with responsibility for Special Education and Inclusion Hildegarde Naughton TD.
Senator Micheál Carrigy stated, "I have been contacted by families in Longford who are deeply concerned about the lack of available places for their children at St. Christopher's. As a result, many children are forced to travel outside the county to access special education, which can significantly extend their travel time and disrupt their daily routines."

He added, "We need to do better by these families. It is essential that we create more capacity at St Christopher's so that children with additional needs in Longford can receive the education and support they deserve close to home."
Senator Carrigy said he is committed to continuing his advocacy on this issue to ensure that adequate resources and support are provided for special education in Longford. "I will keep pushing for solutions until we see tangible improvements for these children and their families," he concluded.

Towards the end of March 2023 a new extension was officially opened at St Christopher's Special School.
