Longford GAA has appointed former Mayo U21 All-Ireland winning manager Mike Solan as the new county senior football supremo.
Solan is poised to take over the reins from Dublin's Paddy Christie who departed following a very disappointing 2024 season, even though Longford did achieve back-to-back O'Byrne Cup triumphs during his term in charge.
Longford GAA announced on Tuesday night that following the conclusion of interviews, the selection committee put in place to find the next Longford Senior Football manager made its recommendation to the Longford GAA Management Committee.
The Management Committee will, at the next County Board meeting, be recommending to club delegates that Mike Solan (Mayo) be appointed as the next Longford Senior Football manager for a 3-year term.
Mike Solan, from Ballaghaderreen, is a former All-Ireland Under-21 winning manager with his native Mayo in 2016. He also led Mayo to Connacht U20 success in 2018.
More recently, Mike served as assistant manager to Andy Moran with the Leitrim senior footballers in 2022 and 2023.
Mike’s management team will be announced in the coming weeks.
Longford GAA Chairperson Albert Cooney welcomed the Management Committee’s recommendation of Mike Solan and his management team and expressed the hope that all clubs, members, supporters, and players will give their full support to the new management team.
