Longford contingent at the Béal na Bláth Commemoration Ceremony

Longford members of the Fine Gael party were out in force at the Béal na Bláth Commemoration Ceremony that took place last Sunday, August 25, 2024.

Taoiseach Simon Harris led the ceremony marking the anniversary of Michael Collins death.

A large crowd assembled at Beal na Blath in Cork to mark the 102nd anniversary of Irish patriot and revolutionary Michael Collins.

The commander in chief of the National Army was just 31 when he was ambushed and killed, during the Irish Civil War.

Simon Harris is just the third serving Taoiseach to speak at the commemoration ceremony, giving an oration at 3 o'clock this afternoon.

Longford Westmeath TD, Peter Burk, spoke of the importance of the commemoration: “I was delighted to attend the 102nd Commemoration of the death of Michael Collins following the ambush in Béal na Bláth, Co Cork.

“A momentous occasion for the Collins family and the wider Fine Gael gathering and a testament to democracy and the path to freedom our nation has taken in that time thanks to the massive sacrifices our founding fathers made”, commented Minister Burke.
