The Social & Cultural Committee of North Midlands Credit Union recently held its annual event in the Longford Arms Hotel to present awards to some of the local voluntary organisations that it is supporting this year.
The Social and Cultural Fund is a special fund approved by the Board of Directors to give recognition and financial support to voluntary organisations that make a valuable contribution to the quality of life within the local community.
This funding initiative is now in its 26th year and to date has provided over €2.3 million to local voluntary organisations.
The Credit Union once again this year supported a wide range of organisations in the local area working in a variety of sectors and projects such as social, cultural, community development, the disability and age active sector, youth activities and sporting organisations.
This year the fund increased to €170,000 and we had over 280 organisations apply for the funding.
Speaking at the presentation night in the Longford Arms Hotel on Monday, June 17, Brian Gillen, Chairperson of the Social and Cultural Committee of North Midlands Credit Union paid tribute to the many volunteers and their respective organisations for their commitment and ongoing valuable work in the community.
He said it was fitting that the Credit Union. as a volunteer led organisation, should recognise and financially support the work of other voluntary organisations where possible.
Charlie O’Rourke Director of North Midlands Credit Union spoke about the Social and Cultural fund and the satisfaction felt by the Credit Union of continuing to be in a financial position to support local voluntary organisations.
