Fine Gael’s Carrigy tops poll in North Longford

Outgoing Fine Gael County Councillor Micheál Carrigy has received an emphatic mandate from voters in the North Longford LEA after he was returned to the local authority on the first count.

As predicted by earlier tallies, Cllr Carrigy received 1,111 first preferences, exceeding the quota by 70 votes. His party colleague, Cllr John Duffy, looks set to be elected in due course, having secured 762 votes on the first count.

Meanwhile long-standing Fine Gael Councillor Frank Kilbride has admitted it looks like his chances of securing a seat in North Longford are slim. However, in an interview with local radio he said he is now considering going forward as a candidate in the next general election.
