Technimark lodge plans for further expansion of Longford site

Technimark, a global manufacturing leader for the healthcare market, have lodged plans with Longford County Council for a significant development of their facilities.

The Longford based company lodged the planning application to expand. Located at Longford Business & Technology Park, Templemichael Glebe, Ballinalee Road, Longford the injection moulded specialists are one of the county's top employers.

The application is for the conversion of part of the existing warehouse to a manufacturing area. Other works include the construction of an extension consisting of manufacturing areas and warehouse areas and the construction of a new two-storey quality lab to the south east corner of the main entrance block.

The plans also seek to relocate three depressed loading docks positions with the provision of one new additional dock, 20 storage silos and exit ramp for trucks leaving the site via local road that connects to the N63 Ballinalee Road.

To accommodate the development the company seeks to demolish an existing storage shed.

A further application relates to the construction of a 95 spaces car-park on land to the south of the existing manufacturing facility. The development will include the provision of a vehicular access point onto the local access road that connects to N63 Ballinalee road, together with all associated site works.

In December of 2022 the then Taoiseach Micheál Martin came to Longford to visit Technimark as they created 80 new high skill jobs, doubling the size of the medical manufacturing facility in Longford.

The purpose built 50,000-square-foot extension represented a €26M investment that included their first European innovation centre, incorporating office space for designers and engineers as well as a production lab for prototype manufacturing.

Technimark bought out Longford Tool and Plastic in 2020. Longford Tool and Plastic, established over 55 years ago, makes injection moulded products for the medical device, pharmaceutical, and consumer product sectors.

The latest plans were submitted to the local authority planners this week and it is anticipated that a decision will be made by July 18 next.
