Crowds gathered at Mitchell’s Bar, Legan recently for a fundraising weekend, which saw €7,240 raised for St Luke’s Cancer Care and Research.
Mitchell’s have been hosting such fundraisers since 2003, but this year, they decided to go a step further and host a range of events to cater for all ages and interests.
On the Saturday, the pig roast and barbeque was enjoyed by patrons, but it was Sunday that left a lasting mark on those who attended. Following some fun-filled outdoor bingo, 200 helium balloons were released by locals in dedication to those lost to or currently battling against Cancer.
Explaining why the charity was chosen, Elaine Mitchell states, “Everybody in the Parish has been affected by Cancer”.
Speaking about the balloon release, which was launched by renowned architect Dermot Bannon, Elaine admits, “it was an excellent day and a glorious moment”.
Elaine is eager to thank all those who played a part in the event. “Thanks to all who helped us, sponsored us, offered spot prizes and supported the weekend,” she says, concluding that all will be invited back for a presentation to St Luke’s in the near future.
