Lisryan's Spooky kids Halloween party lights up north Longford

Lisryan

The announcement of the winners of the Design a Sign for Lisryan - Kids Art Competition took place during the Halloween Fancy Dress event in The Crossroads Inn

Monday, October 30 at 5pm saw Lisryan become home to everything from Scary Ghouls to Unicorns, from Princesses to Wednesday’s (on a Monday no less).

The event was organised by the Lisryan Tidy Village Committee who deserve a huge word of congratulations for putting on yet another extremely successful event for the children in the village and surrounding communities.

A word of thanks also to Pauline and Gerry for allowing the event to be held in the Crossroads Inn.

The kids and parents, alike enjoyed the evening which included some good old fashioned Halloween games for the kids to get involved in along with disco and loads of treats.

Faustina Rodgers and Claire Anderson outdid themselves again with their home baked goodies for both children and adults.
One of the highlights of the night was the announcement of the winners of the– Design a Sign for Lisryan - Kids Art Competition.

One was for the Bug Hotel and the other for Bee Pollination Patch in the village. Over 65 entries were received between the 2 age group and sign design categories.

The talent shown by the children who entered was just outstanding. The independent judges found it really difficult to pick a winner amongst them all but as with all competitions there has to be a winner.

The winners received a fabulous Crayola Art boxed art set which we hope they will enjoy for months to come.

The winner of the 5-8 year old group was Muireann O’Reilly, St Fintan’s National School, Lismacaffrey

Highly commended in this category were; Jayden, Scoil Bhríde, Killasonna and Rory Anderson, Líos Na Gaoithe, Lisryan.

The winner of the 9-12 year old group was Mia Hynes from Scoil Bhríde, Killasonna.

Highly commended in this category were; Sabrina Reilly, St Fintan’s National School, Lismacaffrey and Aine Tiernan
A huge congratulations to the winners who will see their work transformed into a sign which will be displayed proudly in the village of Lisryan for years to come.

A special word of thanks to the Principals and staff of both St Fintan’s National School and Scoil Bhríde National School for getting involved in this project. We hope to involve the children in future projects in the coming year.

On the night, the committee also presented the Líos na Gaoithe Residents Association with a cheque for €200 to assist them in their continued work to maintain and enhance the green areas of the estate.

It’s been another busy week for the committee, and they had another event on Friday night, November 3 in the Crossroads Inn.

A cheque to the value of €4,000 was presented to the Longford branch of the Alzheimer’s Society of Ireland.

This follows our hugely successful sponsored climb of Croagh Patrick on September 16. Twenty nine volunteers scaled the mountain and raised a huge amount of money in the process.

DJ Duggy was spinning out the tunes on the night and it was great to see everyone there enjoying a good night of celebrations for all those who took part in the climb and for those who supported it along the way.

Thanks to everyone who donated to this hugely successful event. Once again, it could not have happened without your support.
And don’t forget to mark December 2 on your calendar, the man in the red suit will be paying a visit once again to the village.

Watch out for more details to come. Follow us on our Facebook page and/or Instagram page, or better still, get involved, join the group of volunteers and let us know what you would like to see happen in our community.

As the winter nights are setting in, please look out for your elderly neighbours who might be in need of some assistance throughout these dark and what can often be dreary months for people.

Reach of the hand of friendship – it might be the only social connection they have, by giving a little it can mean a lot.
