Longford Green Party representative, Catherine Joseph, has welcomed the launch of a new bus service for Longford.
TFI Local Link Longford-Westmeath-Roscommon launched a new bus route next Monday (July 31). The new service will enhance connectivity between Longford and Roscommon, improving travel options for the local communities.
The route, designated Route 426, is an addition to the Connecting Ireland Rural Mobility Plan, a public transport initiative developed and funded by the National Transport Authority (NTA) as part of the esteemed Transport for Ireland (TFI) Network.
Route 426 will operate seven return trips from Monday to Thursday, eight return trips on Fridays and Saturdays, and four return trips on Sundays, providing an efficient and convenient mode of transport for residents and visitors alike.
This well-designed route will establish vital connections to various villages and areas, including Killashee, Clonfore Cross, Lansborough, Ballyleague, Cloonladdra, Moneen, Beechwood, and Emoe Cross, fostering enhanced accessibility for all.
The Green Party local election hopeful said: “Commuters can now look forward to peak-time services that cater to their daily travel needs, along with late evening options that ensure flexibility in their schedules.”
The route improves connectivity to regional bus services and the wider TFI Network, with connections at Longford Irish Rail station and Roscommon, enabling onward travel to Dublin, Sligo, and Galway.
Ms Joseph expressed her delight at the development: "I wholeheartedly welcome the launch of this essential link between the towns of Longford and Roscommon. The introduction of Route 426 is a long-awaited and vital priority for our area, as it will undoubtedly play a pivotal role in creating reliable connections for our valued passengers," she said.
In line with her strong commitment to environmental sustainability, Catherine further emphasized, "We all recognize the importance of embracing sustainable modes of public transport from an environmental standpoint. This new bus service not only offers an eco-friendly commuting option but also provides a lifeline for passengers, offering a frequent and dependable bus service for their daily commutes, educational pursuits, recreational outings, and opportunities to meet with family and friends."
Catherine Joseph lauded the collaborative efforts between TFI Local Link Longford Westmeath Roscommon and the NTA in delivering affordable, accessible, and appropriate public transport solutions for the region.
She acknowledged the significance of this brand-new high-frequency service that expertly links two key rural towns, creating valuable opportunities for individuals to reach their desired destinations conveniently.
