Mark Casey has officially been inducted as the new mayor of County Longford.
Cllr Casey, who was nominated for the position by Fianna Fail’s Seamus Butler, said the occasion was an especially proud one for himself and his family.
During his 12 month stint in office, Cllr Casey vowed to encourage an all round sense of positivity in a county he said had suffered for too long.
“It’s important we talk ourselves up,” he told a hushed and much changed council chamber this afternoon (Friday).
Attracting industry and promoting tourism were two key areas he said, would dominate much of his efforts over the year ahead.
The position of deputy mayor, meanwhile, was entrusted to Fianna Fail Cllr Seamus Butler.
