A husband and wife were rushed to hospital after their car collided with a truck on the outskirts of Newtownforbes on Monday afternoon.
The incident happened at around 12pm at Minard, around a mile outside Newtownforbes village.
Both the woman, who was driving the vehicle, and her husband had to be cut from their Ford Focus car by emergency services who attended the scene.
They were taken to the Midland Regional Hospital in Tullamore and Mullingar respectively for treatment.
The conditions of both were unknown at the time of going to press while the driver of the truck was unharmed.
In the meantime, gardaí have launched an appeal for witnesses who may have seen what happened to contact them at Longford Garda Station (043) 3346741.
The road was closed in one direction for a period of time on Monday afternoon to allow forensic inspectors to carry out a detailed examination of the scene.
Monday’s incident was the third serious road accident to hit the region in the space of two weeks.
