The Sinn Féin candidate for the EU Midlands North West constituency, Matt Carthy, will visit Co. Longford on Monday, January 27.
Speaking in advance of the trip Cllr Carthy said: “My tour across the 15 counties of this constituency continues on Monday with a trip to Longford.”
He added, “On Monday I hope to speak to as many community groups and voters as possible with a view to hearing first-hand the day to day issues affecting the people of Longford.
“Later that evening I will host a public meeting on the topic of ‘standing up for rural communities’. The meeting will take place in Cooneys Hotel, Ballymahon at 8pm.
“Rural communities are struggling to deal with the austerity policies of this and the previous government. Emigration is a huge problem and rural isolation impacts on many vulnerable people. I want to be a voice for rural Ireland in Europe. I want to stand up for rural communities.
“I look forward to travelling to Longford on Monday and hope to hear as many views and voices on the day and over the course of the campaign.”
