The Longford town Darkness Into Light Committee members and some of the Fresh Today School Lunches team
Darkness Into Light 2023 is happening on Saturday, May 6 at 4:15am and this marks the tenth year Darkness Into Light has been held in Longford.
People have the option of participating at one of the two official venues for the county, the Sports and Leisure Centre in The Mall (Albert Reynolds Peace Park) or at Ballymahon Vocational School in Ballymahon.
There are also Darkness Into Light walks being organised by Rathline GAA on its new walkway in Clonbonny, Legan Sarsfields are also organising a walk as are Fr Manning Gaels / St Helen's Ladies Football Club at Monaduff, Drumlish and there is also a DIL walk at Leebeen Park in Aughnacliffe.
Suicide and self-harm continue to be a serious problem throughout Longford and Ireland.
Communities are encouraged to work together to help raise funds to ensure Pieta can continue to provide their vital and free services across the country.
The services offered by Pieta include intervention therapy for suicide ideation and self-harm; a 24-hour helpline and text service; a Suicide Bereavement Liaison service; and bereavement therapy for those impacted by the suicide of a loved one.
The Longford Town Committee would like to thank their local supporters and volunteers, and the residents of Templemichael, for making each event a success.
This year they would like to especially thank Ken, Martina, and the rest of the team at Fresh Today School Lunches who have gone above and beyond to support Darkness Into Light 2023.
Fresh Today School Lunches provide healthy food options for children in Irish DEIS Schools in Longford and across the country.
They will again be providing participants of Darkness Into Light with healthy food and snack options.
To support the goal of reducing unnecessary waste, Fresh Today School Lunches will also be sponsoring the provision of fresh drinking water removing the need for single-use plastic bottles.
Registration for Darkness Into Light can be done online at darknessintolight.ie, or in-person on the morning of the walk.
Schools, clubs and communities, and companies have several options to support bulk registration to participate at an official venue or to Take Part Your Own Way.
All registrations will count towards Longford’s participant number and the amount of money raised.
