The Fine Gael apple cart was upset, greatly to say the least, after last night’s second Longford convention in Ballinalee.
Two members emerged victorious, while headquarters decided that it would select a further two candidates, itself towards the end of this week.
This means that sitting councillors John Duffy and Frank Kilbride must wait in anticipation while their political futures hang in the balance and Maura Kilbride Harkin and Frank Kiernan wait it out. Sitting councillor Mícheal Carrigy and newcomer Padraig Brady - son of Cllr Gerry Brady who is stepping down in June - are safely through convention after last night’s dramatics, and currently planning their campaigns in earnest. More details in Wednesday’s Longford Leader.
