A ‘Save Our Schools’ protest march organised by the Save our National Schools committee (SoNS) and in conjunction with Scoil Bhride will take place on May 26, next at 12:30pm beginning at Parnell Square and ending outside Dáil Eireann.

The protest march has been organised by the SoNS in an effort by parents and teachers to protect rural national schools, many of which now face the threat of closure in the aftermath of the tough austerity measures imposed on them in the last budget. “Our ancestors fought hard for and took great pride in our small rural schools,” said a spokesperson. “It is not alone the present generation, but the generations of the future who will benefit from small rural schools. It is therefore imperative that all members of the community should be at the march on Saturday, May 26 in Dublin. The march will assemble in Parnell Square at 12.30pm and march directly to Leinster House.
