Thieves steal safe and ransack Longford business during late night raid

Gardai are hunting thieves who made off with a sum of cash from a Longford business over the course of Monday night/Tuesday morning.

Gardai have determined the Main Street premises was entered via a first floor side door where an unsuccessful attempt was made to open a cash till.

As the thieves continued the raid, they came across a safe containing an undisclosed sum of cash which was later taken.

Attempts to prise more valuables from the premises’ office, however, ended in failure although gardai have confirmed it was ransacked with considerable damage being caused to its ceiling.

Detectives are presently running the rule over CCTV footage and are awaiting the results of a thorough forensic examination which was also carried out.
