Music Generation Longford is inviting young people from across the county to try a trad instrument in Granard library on Saturday, March 11 and Wednesday, April 12.
Music Generation Longford is delighted to run these two educational and fun workshops to introduce young people to instruments they might not have tried before.
To kick-start Seachtain na Gaeilge, the first workshop, ‘Try the Pipes’, will be an introduction to the Uilleann Pipes with Noel Carberry.
Noel will be in attendance on the day to demonstrate how the Uilleann Pipes work and answer questions any young budding piper might have. Noel will be joined by young Uilleann Pipers who will perform for attendees as well as renowned Trad Musician Angelina Carberry who will also perform on the day.
The second workshop will offer an array of trad instruments for people to try including Bodhrán, Banjo, Fiddle, Harp, Concertina and Whistle. Angelina and Noel will again be available, alongside well-known whistle player and singer Teresa Costello and Harpist Elisabeth Affolter. The workshops are free, with no sign-up required. Any interested musicians are welcome to come on both days.
‘Try the Pipes’ will run on Saturday, March 11 from 10am – 12pm and ‘Try Trad’ will take place on Wednesday, April 12 from 12 – 2pm. These workshops are suitable for 7 – 18 year-olds but younger music enthusiasts are welcome.
