The harbour in Lanesboro was recently restored following six weeks of disrepair.
The harbour had been damaged following the flagstones on the walkway being ripped out by boats moored there after the water rose.
The correction was revealed Thursday, 26 September at a meeting for the Ballymahon Municipal District by Cathaoirleach of the Longford County Council, Cllr. Mark Casey who had secured funding for the repairs.

“I secured €15000 to carry out the works on the harbour and to ensure that it was left safe for people” said Mr Casey, speaking to the Limerick Leader.
Cllr Casey was very pleased with the response from the council saying, “As soon as I notified them we got funding addresses,”
“We got it done as quickly as we possibly could,”
The funding, which was provided to by the Head of Finance for Longford County Council John McKeon is only the beginning of the council’s and the Cathaoirleach’s plan for the harbour.

Cllr Casey explains that the restoration of the walkway is only phase one in the council's plan for the Lanesboro port and phase two begins with the refurbishment of the walkway on the other side to ensure the same thing doesn't happen again.
“I’m looking forward to securing funding in this budget coming up this November, to ensure that we get the other areas of the harbour done,” said Cllr Casey
“This will be an area where campervans park,” he explains.
“We have a small beach for younger people there, and we’re currently in the process of securing funding to put in a swimming area for older children,”
