A festive jobs boost is in the pipleine for the county with the announcement by Heatons and Boots that they are to take on extra staff for Christmas at their stores in Longford town.

Boots Ireland, with stores in Longford, Athlone, Roscommon, Carrick-on-Shannon and Mullingar, is currently advertising for 400 temporary positions - both full and part time – with application forms availble on-line.

Heatons, meanwhile, announced that it will create 250 “temporary positions” at its 52 outlets around the country with a number of those positions earmarked for Longford, Carrick-on-Shannon, Mullingar and Roscommon.

Carmel O’Brien, HR Director, Boots Ireland, said that as the festive season approaches, the additional positions were necessary so that the company could deliver on its “ambition to be the leading pharmacy-led health and beauty retailer”.

“Customer service is critically important at Boots and this is even more important when our stores are at their busiest during the Christmas season,” Ms O’Brien added. “These additional 400 temporary positions will help us to deliver on our ambition to be the leading pharmacy-led health and beauty retailer through the delivery of an excellent product range coupled with superior customer service.  I would urge anyone looking for temporary work to visit our website and apply for the positions available.”

Boots is extending its opening hours over the Christmas with many stores open until 6pm on Christmas Eve. Log onto www.boots.jobs/ireland or www.heatons.ie for more details.

Meanwhile Argos confirmed a number of weeks ago that it will also be hiring additional staff for the Christmas period throughout a number of its stores.
