Irish Water has pledged to carry out a major uprade of a troublesome north Longford water line.

Fianna Fáil Cllr PJ Reilly said the public utility had agreed to undertake extensive works on a section of the Creevy water line in Granard.

“This is especially good news for the residents of Ballywillan as well as Creevy Upper and Lower,” he said.

Cllr Reilly said while the exact cost of the project was undisclosed, its importance could not be underestimated.

“Irish Water has committed for a new water line to go in on this complete stretch of 3km.

“This will be of huge relief to the residents and houses along this line as it has been severely disrupted with a number of water bursts over the last couple of years.”

One of the most recent stoppages took place on Christmas and New Year's Day resulting in a number of households being left cut off.

The north Longford councillor issued a public acknowledgement to Irish Water for agreeing to proceed with the works in what is regarded as being one of the largest single projects to be carried out since the turn of the year.
