Edgeworthstown's new €4.5 million library was officially opened by Minister Heather Humphreys last Friday
It was a red-letter day for Edgeworthstown last Friday as Rural Affairs Minister Heather Humphreys offically opened its new €4.5m state of the art library.
Ms Humphreys travelled to the mid Longford town to set the seal on a project which has been the best part of half a decade in the making.
“This new library is the result of community development at its best, and it is the perfect example of what can be achieved when the community, local authority and government works together for the benefit of our communities,” she said.
Cathaoirleach of Longford County Council Cllr Peggy Nolan said the occasion represented a “fairytale ending” to a project which promised to breathe new life into the area.
County Council chief executive Paddy Mahon was equally enthused, saying the new library complex would form part of the town’s broader regenerational blueprint.
