Mullingar man banned from driving after Ballymahon incident

A Mullingar man was last week banned from driving for a year by Judge Seamus Hughes

A Mullingar man accused of drink driving and driving without due care and attention arising from an incident in Ballymahon last year, has been put off the road for 12 months by Judge Seamus Hughes.

John Gibney, of Templepatrick, Moyvore, Mullingar, Co Westmeath was told he was off the road for the next year after being stopped by gardaí at Main Street, Ballymahon on June 4 2018.

He was later charged after being found to be marginally over the drink driving limit in and also of a Section 52 charge under the Road Traffic Act 1961.

Mr Gibney, who pleaded guilty to the Section 4 charge, and was represented by local solicitor John Quinn, handed his driving licence into court.

Judge Hughes subsequently disqualified him from driving for 12 months and fined €250, giving him three months to pay.

The Section 52 charge was later withdrawn by the State.
