Evidence of the damage caused to a GP's clinic in Longford town this morning.

The heinous defilement of a Longford GP's clinic on Sunday night has sparked outrage across the county, as people in Longford react to anti-abortion slurs that were spraypainted onto the walls, windows and door of Longford Medical Centre in Leader Park.

Anti-abortion activists are thought to have been behind the incident at the clinic and Gardaí are currently investigating the incident thoroughly.

In response to a story published on the Longford Leader website on Monday morning, a number of people branded the act of vandalism a “disgrace”.

Another Facebook users said: “Shame on all involved. I hope they are caught and charged for vandalism.”

Another story posted on the Longford Leader Facebook page on Monday afternoon detailing the ongoing Garda investigation received similar feedback.

In response to Superintendent Jim Delaney’s remarks that “this is not the norm in Longford”, one Facebook-user agreed that “it is definitely not” and suggested that “it was not anyone that lives here” before adding “I hope not anyway… just disgusting”.

Sarina Ali, daughter of Dr Syed Ali who is the long-serving GP of Longford Medical Centre said that she “totally condemn(s) this act” and that it was “unfortunate for this to have happened, really”. A clean-up operation was in progress for most of Monday, with paint being removed effectively from the glass. Removal of paint from the walls was still in progress yesterday (Tuesday).
