Water Update: Water restrictions in place again tonight across Co Longford

Irish Water has confirmed this evening that water restrictions will be in place from 9pm tonight until 8am tomorrow morning, Monday, March 5 in Newtownforbes, Clondra, Granard town and surrounding areas, Ballinamuck and Drumlish as well as with customers between Lettergunnell and Gelsha in north Longford.

Water will be maintained for Longford town and St Joseph’s Care Centre and customers are being asked to check vacant properties for leaks, and to check for any leaks on water troughs for animals.

The company also says that the local water supply is under pressure in many areas of the county due to increased demand and private side leak.

“Water restrictions are being imposed to help replenish water levels in reservoirs,” a spokesperson added

“Customers are being asked to conserve water to avoid reservoirs emptying and water pressure to homes and businesses being affected.”

The company has also asked customers throughout the county to endeavour to conserve water by not running taps unnecessarily, taking showers instead of baths and to refrain from using dishwashers and washing machines.
