Coolkeen Adventures in Longford town will close its doors on Saturday, February 17 next for the last time.

Run by husband and wife team, Michael and Sheila Mulleady the store initially opened in July 2015 and was going from strength to strength until early last year when local industries began folding and workers moved to other towns.

Michael and Sheila ran a Facebook campaign in the run up to Christmas asking people to come into their store, check out for themselves what was on offer and make a purchase there.

Their efforts, however, were in vain and the couple were forced to make the very difficult decision to close the business altogether.

“We would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank all our customers for their custom and support,” the couple said in a Facebook statement this week.

“It was a difficult decision to close but due to the downturn in the economic climate it has been getting more frustrating and difficult to keep our business open.”

They went on to say that they had put a lot of “blood sweat and tears” into trying to keep the small business open, but, that, it was not to be.

“We would like to thank all who supported us especially our landlord and also the businesses in Hazelwood Shopping Centre - Ward’s Pharmacy, Zara Hairdressers, Longford Office Supplies, Gallery Café and Supervalu who all supported us in different ways.

“We are grateful to you all and we hope you will get continuous support from the people of Longford.

“There is sadness in my heart; thank you sincerely for all your support and friendship.”
