The weekend is upon us again, and as always, there’s plenty to see and do around the county. Here, we have compiled a list of events that are taking place over the next few days.
Friday, October 7
Having kicked off yesterday (Thursday), the fun will continue at Lanesboro/Ballyleague until Monday, October 10, with the Taste of the Lakelands International Food Festival and the World Predator Competition. As part of the food festival, a celebrity cook off, featuring members of Longford and Roscommon ICA, as well as the Longford and Roscommon Roses, will take place in the marquee on the bridge in Lanesboro at 8pm. Tickets cost €10 with proceeds going to Pieta House.
‘Tom Clarke’s One True Love’, written by Killian McGuinness and performed by the Corn Mill Theatre Group, will take to the stage at the Corn Mill Theatre tonight.
A Mass and farewell function for Fr Brian Brennan will be held, starting with Mass in Holy Trinity Church at 8pm, followed by a reception in the Thomas Ashe Hall.
Carrigallen 1916 Commemoration gets underway outside the Community Centre from 6pm to honour Tom Clarke and Peter Paul Galligan. A plaque will be unveiled in their honour, before the Proclamation is read. There will also be a display of 1916 memorabilia.
Tips on how to dress for your shape and how to declutter are just some of the things that will be discussed at Ladies Night in Kilglass Gaels Centre, starting at 8pm. A mini fashion show will take place and there will also be stalls with local companies displaying their products. Entry is €10, with all proceeds going to a local sick children’s fund.
Saturday, October 8
The Cycle for LARCC, organised by the Considine family, will set off from Longford Rugby Club following registration between 9am and 10.30am.
Sunday, October 9
The 33rd annual St Barry’s Tarmonbarry Half Marathon takes place next Sunday, October 9. There is also the usual 8k run as well as the half marathon.
Drumsna Development Association Ltd will host their 5km Fun Run/Walk, with registration in Drumsna Community Resource Centre from 12 noon.
