The weekend is upon us again, and as always, there’s plenty to see and do around the county. Here, we have compiled a list of events that are taking place over the next few days.
Friday, September 30
Leitrim County Council begin their flagship centenary event with ‘The Count, The Countess & The Tommy’ in The Dock, Carrick-on-Shannon at 8:30pm. Fronted by RTÉ presenter and historian, Dr Myles Dungan, the programme will feature music from the era. Tickets for the concert are on sale at €10 and are available from The Dock Box Office at 071 9650828.
The Longford Arms Hotel will play host to the stars on Friday, September 30 and Saturday, October 1, as Longford Lip Sync hits town. Performances from the likes of Nathan Carter, AC/DC, Meatloaf, The Backstreet Boys and many more can be expected, along with an interval performance by ‘The Spice Girls’. Tickets, costing €20, with the proceeds going to St Christopher’s Services and Bethany House, are now available from any of the performers or from Kavanagh’s Bar, Telecho and Kevin’s Dry Cleaners. The event starts at 8pm nightly.
Saturday, October 1
Leitrim County Council’s flagship centenary event will continue in the County Library, Ballinamore, where a team of broadcasters, authors and key academics, including Joe Duffy and Dr Myles Dungan, will present a day-long programme of talks, commencing at 9:45am. The rescheduled Ardagh Twin Peaks Cycle will set out from Keenan Park at 10:30am. There are two cycling options: the family 10km cycle and the Twin Peaks Challenge taking in Ardagh Mountain and Cairn Hill. Entry fee is €20 for the Twin Peaks Cycle and €10 for the shorter cycle. Refreshments will be provided. All welcome.
The Attic House on Longford town’s Ballinalee Road will be officially opened by Dr Sean Campbell, CEO Foróige, and Cathaoirleach of Longford County Council, Cllr Mick Cahill at 1pm.
Legan Sarsfields’ Strictly Come Dancing will be launched in style at Mitchell’s Bar, Legan from 9:30pm, when the couples who will be performing on November 11 - 12 will be unveiled.
Sunday, October 2
If you can walk, run, hop, step or jump, then you’re invited to take part in the Monster 10k/4mile run/walk that will commence at 12 noon. Registration will take place in St Mary’s Parish Hall from 10:30am, with proceeds of the day going towards the building of the Lough Ree Monster for next year’s Lough Ree Monster Festival.
Rooskey Heritage Festival Motorcycle Run kicks off with registration at 11am at Rooskey Community Centre. The run leaves Rooskey at 12 noon. A meal and raffle will take place after the run.
Monday, October 3
Peter and Josephine McLoughlin, Mohill will present a country music extravaganza in aid of Join Our Boys and Leitrim Association of People with Disabilities in the Landmark Hotel, Carrick-on-Shannon. Admission is €15 and the show starts at 9pm, with doors open at 8pm.
