Stephen Maughan, 5 Doorogue, Ballyboghil, Co Dublin appeared before Judge Seamus Hughes charged with driving without reasonable consideration for others at Coolnahinch, Longford on October 9, 2015.
In his summation of the evidence to the court, Garda Martin McGowan said that on the date in question at approximately 7:38pm, he was on mobile patrol in an around Longford town when he observed a red transit van travelling on the Dublin Road out towards Edgeworthstown.
“As the van approached Glennon’s roundabout it failed to yield, moved onto the roundabout and drove up on the inside of an HGV that was travelling on the roundabout at the time,” continued the Garda.
“The defendant was endeavouring to get by the HGV and the HGV had to brake before exiting the roundabout as a result of Mr Maughan’s behaviour.”
Before deliberating on the matter, Judge Hughes said the defendant’s behaviour was unacceptable and he fined him €400 in respect of the matter.
