This weekend is set to be an exciting one in Longford town, as the Longford Summer Festival takes place.

Revived last year after a fifteen-year absence, the festival proved to be a huge hit, and by all accounts the 2016 event will be one to remember.

Set to take place in the Connolly Barracks from Friday, June 24 - Sunday, June 26, the weekend will kick off with a Mega Beach Party on Friday night, with gates open at 8pm.

There will be plenty of musical entertainment throughout the three days, with local favourites Brave Giant, Tomás Skelly, Reprisal and 4 Degrees West as well as Offaly native Mundy taking to the stage. There will be many familiar faces performing during the day, too, while Reuben the Magician, Punch and Judy and Storytime with Maggi will keep the little ones entertained.

Ardagh Heritage and Creativity Centre will be hosting arts and crafts workshops on Saturday and Sunday, while budding chefs can stop by to watch demos by the likes of Gary O'Hanlon, Paul Horohoe, Fiona Egan, Kieran Glennon and Louie Oubihi.

Continuing to promote all that is great about Longford, the Midlands Tented Village will showcase some of the county's best artisan food producers, craftspeople, home and garden ventures and businesses. The Midlands Beer Festival, meanwhile, will see the crew from St Mel's Brewing Company introducing a wide range of unique craft beers.

Of course, there will be plenty of refreshments and tasty bites to eat available throughout the weekend.

If all that didn't paint Longford in a positive light, then you can take a look at 'Longford Through the Lens', a photographic exhibition put together by Longford Camera Club and the Longford Amateur Photographers group which shows Longford in its best light.

Finally, in keeping with its local theme, the proceeds from the event will go towards two deserving local charities; The Attic House and St Christopher's.
