Cumann na mBán members will be making an appearance in Longford this Friday, March 11. Rehearsals have been in full swing at Longford Women's Link as staff and volunteers put the final touches to their play, 'The Unsung Heroines, Longford Women and The 1916 Rising'. The play will be performed twice this Friday, 11 March at 11.30 and 1.30pm at Barneys Restaurant in Longford. It tells the story of Rose McGuinness, Brigid Lyons and the Ní Riain sisters who were stationed at rebel strongholds during the Rising. Students from Templemichael College are also involved. The play takes the form of a dialogue between women of 1916 and 2016 and is one of many events supported by Longford County Council as part of their Ireland 2016 Centenary Programme. Everyone is very welcome and admission is free.
