Louise Heavin to run as an independent in Longford Westmeath area

The former Green Party councillor is now an Independent

Former Mayor of Athlone, Louise Heavin, has announced that she intends to run as an independent candidate in the next general election.

The local architect explained she decided to put her name forward as Longford-Westmeath is where she grew up and is where she is now raising her family.

"I want to see the Midlands progress over the coming years into the thriving beating heart of Ireland," she said. "To do this we need to address the deficiencies and inequalities we experience in our communities, most crucially in housing, which is my main focus."

Ms Heavin stated although the current government is delivering more homes than the last, there is still a huge gap between where we are and where we need to get to.

"I have many years experience as an architect in the housing sector. I intend to put my skills and expertise to good use as a TD delivering solutions that build homes for current and future generations," she said. "We need to ensure everyone has a warm comfortable place to live in their local area."

Ms Heavin said if the private sector is not delivering in areas with a housing need then the next government must.
"I've decided to run because I want to take positive action and be a progressive and constructive voice for our communities," she added.

The former councillor also made an appeal for support for her campaign stating.

“Over the next few weeks I will be starting my campaign and I will need all the help I can get to make it to the Dáil," she said. "All skills are welcome on the team. If you would like to support my effort, please get in touch."

The Independent candidate said updates from her campaign will be posted on her social media accounts and www.louiseheavin.ie
