Deputy Troy resigned as Minister of State at the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment in August 2022

An Investigation Hearing into alleged contraventions of the Ethics in Public Office Act, 1995 and the Standards in Public Office Act 2001 by Longford Westmeath Fianna Fáil TD Robert Troy will be held by the Standards in Public Office Commission (the Commission) in the Commission’s offices on June 10, 2024  at 10am.

Attendance by members of the public and the media will only be facilitated online via Zoom. 

Anyone wishing to observe the hearing is asked to contact the office by email via complaints@sipo.ie before 4pm on Friday, June 7 to register their interest. Remote login details will then be provided.

Deputy Troy resigned as Minister of State at the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment in August 2022 for failing to correctly declare properties on the parliament’s register of members’ interests and also failing to register a rental property with the Residential Tenancies Board (RTB).

Deputy Troy issued a fulsome apology over his “ unintentional errors” and also told journalists, “I’m more than happy to answer any questions Revenue, RTB, the local authority, or Sipo (Standards in Public Office Commission) have in relation to any of my dealings.”

Deputy Troy, who had indicated that he will contest the next general election,  is the most experienced TD in Longford / Westmeath constituency and has secured election in three consecutive elections.

Deputy Troy topped the poll in 2016 with 11,653 votes but his first preference vote dropped by 2,322 to 9,331 in 2020, the second highest of the fifteen candidates in the race.
