Sunday, April 14 was a day to behold. The Lisryan Tidy Village Committee rolled in behind our very own selfless and thoughtful Isabella McEvoy, who at the very young age of 5 decided she wanted to have her hair cut and donated to the ‘Lovely Locks for Children’ Charity.
The 12cm of hair will be cut on Saturday, April 20 and will be used to make wigs for children who are so unfortunate to have to go through Cancer treatment. All money raised from the event will go directly to Laura Lynn Children’s Hospice.
No parent deserves to see their precious child suffer from this horrible disease, but the services provided by Laura Lynn are a lifeline to these families, which makes this cause very worthwhile. Our thoughts and prayers are with all families going through the agony of watching their child suffer in this way.
There was no going down to the woods for it, as the Teddy Bears Picnic had to be held indoors given that the weather didn’t play fair with us.
The Crossroads Inn was transformed into a children’s wonderland with Teddy Bears, Princess’s and cartoon characters wandering about the place along with the children and their favourite Teddy Bears.
The kids were treated to a day of fun and plenty of edible treats (as were the adults). It was an overwhelming success and one which we might even make into an annual event for different charities going forward. (watch this space).
The event could not have happened without the commitment and help of the following; Isabella’s parents, Stephen and Caroline McEvoy. Their support throughout has been incredible.
The volunteers in the community who are always on hand to help out, the committee members who worked so hard to organise and plan this event, the sponsors of raffle prizes, so many children went home happy yesterday having won one of the many many prizes which were all for the children. (Not a wine hamper to be seen).
Thanks to Enda Murphy for the supply of milk to keep the teas and coffees going. A huge thank you to our very own Faustina Rodgers who goes above and beyond for all our occasions by baking all the goodies which have to be sampled as they are only gorgeous.
The event on the day raised €1,100, and a further €600 plus was already raised and the money is still rolling in. We will have the final tally in the coming days and we will let you know how your support has helped. A cheque presentation evening will be advertised in the coming weeks.
I cannot thank you enough for supporting this event and making it the resounding success it was. Your continued support in all the committee does is so very much appreciated.
I keep saying this but it is so true Lisryan is a small community with a huge heart.
