Queries on developing the tourism potential of the Granard Motte and Bailey were raised at the January meeting of Longford County Council.

Cllr Turlough McGovern raised the issue, asking the executive where the tourism project stands. It is proposed the Motte and Bailey occupies a key position of the Norman Heritage Park, as part of the Knights and Conquest tourism development.
Cllr McGovern asked: “We are moving into the beginning of the new year and there are a lot of questions being asked about where the project stands.”

Cllr PJ Reilly said he has also been approached about the plans. Responding Director of Services John Branigan, said: “We had meeting with the committee in December and we have a follow up meeting scheduled for the end of January. We are in constant communication on the issue.”
