The Green Shoots Theatre Group from St Christopher’s Services performing Cinderella at Backstage Theatre
Longford’s Backstage Theatre, was the setting of the biennial Christmas Show from St Christopher’s Services – and what a show it was.
This year the Green Shoots Theatre group from St Christopher’s tackled that well known panto Cinderella and added their own flair and inimitable style to the well-known fairytale. The cast and crew worked tirelessly for the past three months to bring this tale to fruition.
The play directed by Evelyn Kelly with musical direction from Amanda Sweeney and choreography by David Nurse was a riot of fun, colour and storytelling….What more could you ask for?
A cast of over seventy people performed on the day whether dancing, singing or acting.
The role of Cinderella was played by Amanda Butler who had to ward off the attentions of her Wicked Stepmother Linda McGee and her two equally demanding Step sisters Adrian Hand and Triona Maloney. Their jealousy of the stepsisters towards demure and kind Cinderella played by Amanda was palpable to all watching.
The fairy godmother played by Niamh Rushe was instrumental with her magic wand and kind words in getting Cinderella to the ball.
The ball had their own orchestra from the Activation Department to play a Strauss Waltz which they had pre-filmed and was projected on to the Cyc on the Backstage Theatre.
Music Generation / David Crowe provided all the instruments / tuition for the orchestra; this was one of the many highlights of the show. Sound and lighting provided by AV Quinn / Angela Reynolds added to the overall professionalism of the production.
Keeping everyone in check on the stage was Narrator Frances Tynan whose dulcet tones added to the overall quality of the production.
Also involved in the production were the Transition years from St Mel’s College and Meán Scoil Mhuire, Longford.
Meán Scoil Mhuire TY students, Molly Nevin, Amy Dolan, Maria McGlynn and Alex Kelly also leaving cert student Emily Black, played numerous roles in the production, both as dancers, actors and singers their versatility was amazing they threw themselves into everything they did with great enthusiasm the fabulous costumes the students wore were provided by Evolution Stage School, Longford.
The students from St Mel’s College, Ezkiel, Senan, Sebastian and Finn also played an outstanding role in the production as the Entourage to Prince Charming (Kevin Hegarty) and their song ‘If I let you go’ by Westlife was another highlight of a wonderful show.
The sharp suits worn by the students were provided by Spirit Clothing and gave a wonderful sense of style to a production that had fabulous costumes throughout all custom made by Kelly Callan, from KC Creations, Longford. Makeup by Ashley Sweeney (glam makeup by Ash).
If you didn't have a chance to see this wonderful production you really missed out!
