Opposed to proposed development at Longford service station

An appeal has been lodged with An Bord Pleanála against proposed development work at a Longford town service station.

Camlin Service Station, Dublin Road, Ardnacassa, Longford was granted permission in November, with six conditions attached, to proceed with their plan, which consisted of (i) the change of use from retail to retail with ancillary off license use and (ii) the relocation of retail main entrance door along western elevation.

The decision of the Longford County Council planners, however, was subsequently appealed to An Bord Pleanála with the case due to be decided by April 2 of 2024.

In a submission to An Bord Pleanála, appellant Liam Madden suggested the future is home-charged electric cars and it was irrational to permit and encourage takeaway alcohol at petrol stations. "I argue that the Development Plan does not permit alcohol takeaway bulk buying at petrol station kiosks. This proposal is unsustainable development."
