Appeal lodged with An Bord Pleanála against development of new Longford school
The decision of Longford County Council planners to grant permission to Midhe Democratic School CLG for the development of an educational facility in the village of Barry, Kenagh has been appealed to An Bord Pleanála.
Midhe Democratic School CLG applied to Longford County Council last September for the change of use of an existing residential building (and vacant village store) to community education use in Barry Village.
The plans entailed the development of three classrooms and ancillary facilities on the site, with works also including essential repairs, internal alterations, replacement of the existing septic tank.
Longford County Council gave the green light to the plan with eleven conditions attached, however, this decision has subsequently been appealed to An Bord Pleanála with the case now due to be decided by April 2 of 2024.
In a submission to An Bord Pleanála, appellant David Jordan highlighted road safety concerns and he also suggested there was a high possibility that wastewater could contaminate ground and surface water and become a health hazard.
In addition, Mr Jordan expressed concern over how an asbestos roof had been dismantled and removed from the site.
