EPA say they will help businesses in Longford to show their commitment to fight food waste with the publishing of a Food Waste Charter.
One third of all food produced for human consumption is wasted, generating up to 10% of global greenhouse gas emissions.
The EPA figures show that almost two thirds of food waste comes from businesses. Reducing food waste can save money and reduce carbon emissions.
The newly published Food Waste Charter promotes a collective commitment to measure, reduce and report food waste along the food supply chain.
Food and drink businesses in County Longford are called on to join other businesses in signing the Food Waste Charter now and pledging their commitment to reduce food waste.
To help businesses on this journey, the EPA is hosting an online Forum on Food Waste on 9 November.
This will provide an opportunity for businesses to learn more about the charter and hear from businesses like Tesco, O’Brien’s Fine Foods and ARYZTA.
