Knights and Conquests Heritage Centre, Granard was recognised at the National Heritage Week Awards 2023 in Gloster House, Offaly on Friday, October 20.
Knights and Conquests Heritage Centre were runners-up in the Inclusive Heritage Award category, which recognises events that that made a special effort to share heritage with everyone in the community, including those who are new to heritage, those who do not have local roots, those who have additional accessibility needs and encourage intergenerational activity.
Knights and Conquests Heritage Centre was represented at the awards ceremony by Eamonn Creamer, Moira Mahon and Déirdre Orme.
The event organised by Knights and Conquests Heritage Centre, entitled Dúchas Beo, invited people to experience history come to life with a live medieval re-enactment on horseback.
Master craftspeople were also on hand to showcase traditional Irish crafts such as blacksmithing, thatching, weaving and coopering with workshops and demonstrations available for those looking to upskill.
The group put significant effort into its outreach strategy by trying to include as wide a range of people as possible from a variety of backgrounds in the event.
