Popular Longford town character Micko Connolly turns 60

Well wishes from across Longford town are expected to flood in tomorrow (Thursday) as one of its most inimitable characters turns 60.

Micko Connolly, a well known figure in social circles locally, will be the centre of much attention both this evening and this coming Saturday evening when a 'surprise' birthday bash will be held in Murph's Bar.

The former Longford Town FC bagman is undeniably one of the county town's most popular of figures whose previous haunts working as a barman have included the late Peter Kelly's pub, The Stillery and Murph's.

Micko's talents go beyond the local vintner's scene with the Longford town native having enjoyed a successful spell as manager of Valentine's Soccer Team in the annual Paddy Clabby Cup.

A devout Liverpool and Fianna Fáil supporter, Micko also took part in various election campaigns for party candidates over the years.

Micko's 60th birthday bash gets underway at Murph's Bar on Saturday evening from 9pm.
