It's going to be a 'wuff' couple of weeks for Longford's latest superstar as he competes to be the Nose of Tralee. Napoleon is the four year old French Bulldog representing Longford in the annual contest to pick Ireland's top pet.
Tona Daly from Longford town entered Napoleon after seeing the competition on Facebook.
“Napoleon has been part of our family since he was eight weeks old. Even though he has two teenage human sisters, he is the biggest Diva of them all!”
The pretty pooch has been coping well with the adulation that came with his new found fame: “His favourite pastime is walking in the Mall, where he's now a bit of a celebrity being the Longford Nose.”
Napoleon's success in the local round came as a bit of a surprise to Tona: “The three things he loves most in the world are kids, zoomies and his purple chew toy. We only entered for a bit of fun and because he's such a great character, but we never expected him to get this far.”
On the August 22nd the 2022 Nose Of Tralee winner, Sadie from Tyrone, will pass over her crown, knowing she would hold it for just for one year, not furever.
The event, now in its tenth year, saw all types of pet owners submit a photo and a brief description of why their pet deserves to be 'The Nose of Tralee'. This year's line up is dominated by canines, but previous entrants have included a talkative cat, pigs and horses. Bird owners have yet to be represented, but no one suspects foul play.
The Nose of Tralee is sponsored by Pet Sitters Ireland and Tesco. Napoleon was voted by the public to represent Longford, and voting for the final will open on August 3 and be open to August 21. Anyone can vote, and all voting takes place online at https://www.petsittersireland.com/nose-2023/ People can cast one vote per day. The winner will be announced on August 22nd.
