The Edgeworth Centre and Museum gives visitors the opportunity to explore the wonderful heritage of the area all year around
National Heritage Week is a tremendous opportunity to explore the rich cultural tapestry that has made Longford the county it is. The free events give people a chance to delve into the remarkable social and political history that surround them.
One fine example of this is the event hosted by The Maria Edgeworth Centre. On Sunday August 20 the Centre presents a tour of Edgeworthstown. Over the last number of years, the Edgeworth Society has been doing tremendous work promoting the town's heritage. It is recognised for its National and International significance.
The Heritage Week event brings visitors on a tour of the historical sites in Edgeworthstown associated with such historical figures as Goldsmith, The Abbé Edgeworth, William Wordsworth, Oscar Wilde and Maria Edgeworth.
The tour will culminate in a visit to the wonderful Maria Edgeworth Centre where visitors will be updated on plans for the Centre being supported by The Heritage Council.
The Edgeworth Centre and Museum gives visitors the opportunity to explore and enjoy the wonderful heritage of the area all year around. Housed in one of the oldest schools in Ireland, built in 1840, the Maria Edgeworth Centre is an inspiring interpretive centre that is home to original exhibits dating back to the 18th century.
The tour leaves from St Mary’s Church at 2:00pm, additional information can be found on the website www.mariaedgeworth centre.com or by phoning 0872241351. This free guided specialist tour is suitable for families.
