Longford FF councillor looks for road safety measures at local school

There have been calls for speed restrictions to be introduced outside a south Longford primary school.


Fianna Fáil Cllr Mick Cahill raised the issue concerning road safety at Cloontagh National School at last week's meeting of Ballymahon Municipal District.


The long serving local councillor said there was a real and pressing urgency to address it while also implementing measures aimed at reducing traffic congestion.
“Traffic does tend to move quite fast in that area and I would think there is some form of speed restriction outside any school and I would ask that be done in the interest of road safety,” he said.


Cllr Cahill also highlighted the need for a similar focus to be directed at reducing traffic congestion during school pick up and drop off times.
“There's a bit of space generously given to the school by a local landowner which would allow for a drive in and drive out facility for people dropping off at school,” he said.


The call was supported by Fine Gael Cllr Gerald Farrell.
