Ross backs move to extend south Longford village footpath

Resdents and cyclists in a south Longford village are in line for a pathway extension in a bid to improve accessibility.


The need for Longford County Council to extend a footpath on the Ratharney side of Legan to Kelly’s crossroads in the interest of public safety was raised at last week's Ballymahon Municipal District meeting by Cllr Paul Ross.


“This came about because of the success of the new Active Travel Scheme,” he said, adding the call came via an almost identical measure implemented on the Rathowen side of the village.


“I suppose we are the victims of our own success on the Rathowen side of the village.


Cllr Ross welcomed news the project, while not included on this year's schedule of works, would be put forward for future funding applications going foward.
