Cllr Paul Ross in Edgeworthstown
The main street of arguably Co Longford's fastest growing town is in dire need of resurfacing, a meeting was told last week.
Fine Gael Cllr Paul Ross issued a plea at last week's meeting of Ballymahon Municipal District for council officials to carry out resurfacing works on the main street of Edgeworthstown as “a matter of urgency”.
He said the state of the road had been a drawn out one for locals and businesses in the area following ongoing streetscape works that had been carried out as part of the town's regeneration blueprint.
“This has been a long running issue,” he said.
“There was an agreement a number of years ago that we would have difficulty resurfacing Main Street until the streetscape was finished.”
Cllr Ross appeared to intimate much of the “ruts” and unevenness along the town's main thoroughfare was linked to the recent installation of new street lighting in the area.
“All of the lights are in now but there are major dips in the road every five metres or so. It's not too dissimilar to the way Ballymahon got a number of years ago and it is a big issue at the moment,” he added.
