The launch night for the 225th Commemoration of the Battle of Ballinamuck is to take place on August 12
The clock is ticking for anyone looking to take part in what promises to be one of Longford and the midlands’ most eagerly awaited historical showcases in recent memory.
Over the course of four action packed days, the north Longford village of Ballinamuck will be transformed into an eighteenth century macrocosm as it prepares to host the 225th anniversary of the Battle of Ballinamuck.
Ahead of its September 7-10 spectacle, the date for its official launch has been confirmed for Saturday, 12 August.
The committee behind this major historical midlands event is inviting everyone to come along to see the full programme of events revealed. This will be a get together for all who have an interest in the programme of events this September.
The launch which will get underway at 8pm, takes place in a very fitting venue, the iconic ’98 Bar in Ballinamuck. The original thatched public house, which dates back to the time of the battle, sits at the foot of Kiltycreevagh Hill, a gateway to Ballinamuck and crossed by General Humbert’s French forces prior to the battle.
As the first official event of the 225th commemoration, the evening will be jam-packed with live entertainment, information, laughter and craic all rolled into one.
Organisers are equally billing the evening as a great chance to meet and greet local pikeman and see the type of uniform required.
Those participating must be a minimum age of 16 years old.
Committee Chairman Mark Cunningham said: The launch night is an ideal opportunity for the whole community and the surrounding areas to get together in the build up to our commemoration weekend in September.
“We’ve had a huge response to date but there are limited places available so if you don’t want to be disappointed get in contact with us as soon as possible through our Facebook page.”
